Business Motivation Model

The Business Motivation Model of the Object Management Group is used to describe a company's goals and means. To this end, it defines a series of terms and relationships between these terms. As is usual with the OMG, this is done with the help of a metamodel. These precise definitions of terms make it easier to create a consistent description of a company. For example, the relationship "A strategic goal reinforces the vision" prompts you to link strategic goals with the company vision.

The specification can be downloaded from the OMG website. As the metamodel is not shown very clearly in it, we have created our own version here, which you can also download as a PDF file. All classes and all relationships of the BMM are shown in the following four diagrams.

Core elements of the Business Motivation Model

All core terms of the BMM are included here. There are also a number of placeholders that refer to other models or specifications, such as BPMN (Business Process).
