SE-ZERT Certified Systems Engineer (GfSE)

The Certified Systems Engineer (GfSE)® is the certificate for individuals of the SE-ZERT program of the Gesellschaft für Systems Engineering (GfSE). The certificate attests to the competencies of the holder in the discipline of Systems Engineering. There are a total of three competency levels:

  • Level C: Understanding

  • Level B: Applying

  • Level A: Mastering

The first six Certified Systems Engineers (GfSE) worldwide successfully completed their training for preparation at oose.

The following topics are included in Level C of Systems Engineering:

  • Introduction to Systems Engineering (Overview, History, Terms, Process Models, ISO 15288, Industry Standards)

  • Cross-cutting Interfaces (Lifecycle Management, Infrastructure Management, Project Portfolio Management)

  • Project Management (Project Planning, Project Evaluation, Project Control, Information Management, Measurement)

  • Systems Engineering Management (Decision Management, Risk Management, Configuration Management)

  • Requirements Engineering

  • System Architectures

  • Realization Processes (Implementation, Integration, Verification, Validation)

  • Cross-functional Functions (Logistic Support, Environmental Analysis, Human Systems Integration)

  • Operational Aspects and Disposal in Design (Operational Process, Maintenance Process, Disposal Process, Procurement, Supply, QM Process)

  • Conflict Management and Social Competence

Who conducts the examination?

The examination is conducted by the independent individual certification body SE-TREC GmbH.

What are the admission requirements?

The four levels of SE-ZERT have different admission requirements.
Level D is exclusively awarded by universities. For the entry-level C (understanding competency), the following prerequisites apply:

To be eligible for the examination, you must have completed technical training as a master or technician and have at least 5 years of professional experience, or a technical bachelor's degree with 2 years of professional experience, or a technical master's degree, Dipl. Ing FH, Dipl. Ing., with 1 year of professional experience.

For Level B (applying competency), the following applies:

To be eligible for the examination, you must have completed technical training as a master or technician and have at least 9 years of professional experience, or a technical bachelor's degree with 6 years of professional experience, or a technical master's degree, Dipl. Ing FH, Dipl. Ing., with 5 years of professional experience.

Certification for Level A (mastering competency) is achieved through the creation of a thesis; there are no preparation courses for this level.

When and where does the examination take place?

The date and location of the examination are coordinated with the course participants. It is possible to take the examination online from home.

How long does the examination last?

The examination lasts for 120 minutes.

Is it a multiple-choice test or an oral examination?

The examination includes multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions.

Can I participate in the examination without taking the preparation course?

No, you must complete training with a licensed training provider, such as oose eG. Information about our training can be found here: Preparation Course Certified Systems Engineer Level C Preparation Course Certified Systems Engineer Level B.

Is there a mandatory attendance for the preparation course?

Yes, you must have been present for 80% to be admitted to the examination.

I am a member of the Gesellschaft für Systems Engineering (GfSE) e.V. Do I get a discount on course fees and examination fees?

Yes, GfSE members receive discounts. Please contact us so that we can inform you about the conditions: info@oose.de.

Are the respective certificates equivalent to INCOSE certificates?

If you successfully pass the Certified Systems Engineer (GfSE)® examination, you can also obtain the corresponding INCOSE certificate (ASEP for Level C and CSEP for Level B) upon payment of a processing fee. If you have already obtained an INCOSE certificate, you cannot apply for the corresponding GfSE certificate.

What are the training contents based on?

The training contents are based on the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook. In the courses of oose eG, in addition to the mandatory contents, advanced topics are also covered. This prepares participants optimally for both the examination and the handling of their project tasks.
